What it does

The GSM SIM 800L Module is a compact quad-band GSM/GPRS module for IoT applications. It supports SMS, voice calls, and GPRS data in a tiny form factor, making it ideal for space-constrained wireless communication projects.

Good to know

  • Very sensitive to power supply – MUST provide 2A peak capability
  • Use 1000μF+ electrolytic capacitor across VCC/GND
  • Operates at 3.7-4.2V – do NOT connect 5V directly
  • Use buck converter from 5V or connect directly to LiPo battery
  • Network LED indicates status: 64ms blink=searching, 3s blink=connected
  • Many clones exist – verify chip marking says SIM800L
